MercedesTrophy World Final 2004

The MercedesTrophy World Final was held in Stuttgart, Germany between September 23-28 2004. Team Kuwait was represented by Mr. Bader Al Bannay, Mr. Jeffrey Wilder and Mr. Khalid Bin Sabt who were the winners of the MercedesTrophy National Final held at the Ahmadi Golf Club in Kuwait on April 16 2004.

 The road to the MercedesTrophy World Final was long and challenging as these three players had to beat out 120 other aspirants to win the Kuwait National Final. This gave them the chance to participate in the World Final where 25 teams representing 42 nations were vying for the ultimate victory.

 Thirteen years ago, in 1991 the very first MercedesTrophy tournament was held for customers and friends of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Since then this tournament has now grown into an event in which more than 53000 golfers from over 40 countries participate to qualify for the highlight of the year for every Mercedes-Benz customer with an interest in golf.

 This year a total of 75 players played the first two rounds of the World Final on Saturday and Sunday on the wonderful golf course at the Schloss Nippenburg Golf Club in cloudy, breezy and rainy conditions - a challenge which the players more than stood up to.

 The third and last round of the 2004 World Final was played at the Solitude Golf Club on Monday where the former Mercedes German Masters event used to be held. Under overcast skies and with occasional showers there was an especially demanding course awaiting the players to determine the new MercedesTrophy "World Champion."

 At the award ceremony on the final evening the winners received their substantial prizes and were honoured by tennis star Boris Becker and Dr. Joachim Schmidt, head of Mercedes-Benz marketing & Sales.

 Mr. Jeffrey Wilder made Team Kuwait proud as he finished Fifth (5th) in the Singles competition on overall gross scores.
